If the incumbent [Paul Feiner] was unaware of just how damaging his admission of administrative dysfunction was to him personally, his opponent was not. Above and beyond his talents as a lawyer and accountant was his “collaborative” management style, McGoey claimed. “Most importantly,” he said, “I have the ability to work with people to solve problems....”

In response to a question about insurance buyouts, Feiner acknowledged the need to rein in insurance costs, including who gets to buy out of the Town’s insurance policy and at what price. He blamed the board for granting themselves a generous buyout option even though they are part-time. McGoey said he has “never seen anything as generous as the health insurance buyout” available to Greenburgh employees, but he noted that the vast majority were utilized by unionized workers. “That has to be renegotiated,” he said, adding, “Feiner is now blaming everyone else for a crisis he should have averted.”

Asked about Edgemont’s ongoing effort to incorporate as a village, thereby divorcing itself from the rest of Greenburgh’s unincorporated communities, Feiner reiterated that it would be “devastating.” He then accusing McGoey of accepting “significant support from the Edgemont corporation.” McGoey responded by saying that he too was opposed to Edgemont incorporation and that he was not receiving any financial support from them. Then he added, “Mr. Feiner is the poster boy for why they want to incorporate.”

In his closing statement, McGoey returned to his core message: “I bring strong skills in budgeting, planning and working collaboratively with others.” Feiner used his final remarks to criticize McGoey for being “totally unknown in our community” and for never attending or spoken at a board meeting. McGoey opted to rebut that, saying he had “too much respect for the process of government to go to a town board meeting and engage in circus-like activity.”

Instead, he promised: “I’m going to shut the circus down.”
