Diane Torstrup: A Vote for Barry McGoey in Greenburgh

I write as a Tarrytown resident to urge Democratic primary voters in the Town of Greenburgh—including voters in the incorporated Villages—to vote for Barry McGoey for Town Supervisor.

First and foremost, after 34 years with the same chief administrator, Greenburgh needs new leadership. Democratic candidate Barry McGoey is the right person for the job. Barry has a deep professional background as a practicing attorney with additional expertise in accounting and human resources. Barry also has experience in government. He currently serves as Ardsley Village Trustee and previously served as a court officer with the NYS Unified Court System. His dedication to public service is also evident from his many years of work as a Yonkers firefighter. Barry is also a trusted labor negotiator, having served as President of the Yonkers Firefighters Union IAFF Local 628 Union and Vice President of the Westchester/Putnam Region of the NYS AFL-CIO.

Perhaps most importantly, Barry is a man of action. He collaborates with colleagues in government to get things done. He will not be content only to prioritize answering emails or phone calls, a job better suited to qualified staff. As chief administrator, Barry will work with Town Board colleagues and department heads to ensure the Town’s collective wellbeingthrough competent management and oversight.

Greenburgh is not a tiny municipality. It spans approximately 36 square miles and its population exceeds 95,000 people. Roughly half of the Town’s residents live in incorporated villages (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Tarrytown) and the other half in its unincorporated area (including South Ardsley, North Elmsford, East Irvington, Edgemont, Fairview, and Hartsdale). The Town’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget was $134.7 million – $109.1 million in the “B” budget borne by the unincorporated area, and $25.6 million in the “A” budget borne by the entire Town.

Because each of the six villages has its own local government and is affected by only about 1/5 of the Town’s budget, decisions made by the Town Board have a much greater impact on residents of the Town’s unincorporated area. Village residents owe it to our neighbors in unincorporated Greenburgh to vote for a hands-on, can-do Town Supervisor who will address emergencies in real time, increase affordable housing, and implement cost-reducing measures throughout Greenburgh. Please join me in voting for Barry McGoey in the Democratic primary on June 23.
